Wall Bed Hardware: A B2B Buyer's Guide to Mechanisms & Specs
How to specify wall bed (Murphy bed) hardware: the six mechanism families, the standard 19-model range, and the checks that matter (EN 1129 testing, kit scope, cabinet requirements) before you order.

What a wall bed mechanism has to do
A wall bed (Murphy bed) is only as safe as the hardware that holds it up and lets it fold. The mechanism carries the full weight of the mattress and occupant through a pivot. It holds the bed closed against the cabinet when stored, and it releases smoothly every day for years. That makes it a structural and a safety question, and it is why the European standard EN 1129 was written specifically for wall beds.
Gas-spring lift
Balanced piston hardware that lets the bed fold up and down without slamming, sized to the bed's weight so one person can operate it.
Pivot & hinge
The rotation points the bed turns on, machined to tolerance so the bed sits square and does not drift or creak over time.
Locking & safety catch
Holds the bed closed against the wall when stored and releases safely on opening. It is the part that keeps a wall bed from becoming a hazard.
Steel frame & mounting
The welded carbon-steel frame the mattress platform mounts to, plus the brackets and fixings that anchor the unit to a cabinet or a solid wall.
The six mechanism families
Wall bed hardware is chosen by how the bed folds and what the room does when the bed is up. Our standard range covers six families across nineteen models, for mattresses from 900 to 1500 × 1900 mm:
- ZF, vertical-flip. Folds up flat against the wall; the classic Murphy configuration.
- CF, side-flip. Folds sideways and opens from the side.
- S, side-flip + sofa. Keeps the sofa in place when the bed is open.
- SZF, vertical-flip + sofa. Vertical fold that keeps the sofa in place.
- CFS, side-flip + desk. The closed face doubles as a desk.
- ZFS, vertical-flip + desk & shelf. Vertical fold with a combined desk and shelf.
What to check before you order
Tested to EN 1129
Ask for the test report, not a claim. Ours is an SGS-CSTC report (XMHL2005002469FT) to BS EN 1129-1:1995, result: pass. A report number you can check is worth more than a "CE-compliant" line on a quotation. See also our guide to bed frame safety standards.
Kit scope
Confirm exactly what is in the box. Our kits are the hardware only (lift, hinges, catches, frame and fixings), not the mattress and not the cabinet panels. Panels and cabinet are yours or a separate scope.
Cabinet & wall requirements
A wall bed puts load into the wall and the cabinet as well as the floor. Cabinet minimum depth and side-panel thickness must meet the hardware's installation requirements, and we confirm these against your drawing before production.
Frame & finish
Carbon-steel square or D-tube, powder-coated inside and out to your colour reference. Slats and fittings are replaceable parts, so a worn component can be swapped on its own.
Ordering, minimums and lead time
Standard kits start at a minimum order of 100 pieces per configuration, with non-standard sizes and configurations made to your drawing. Samples take 7–10 days; bulk runs 25–35 days (30–45 in peak season or for custom parts). Trade terms are EXW, FOB Shenzhen or CIF, and we quote a lead time against your actual order.
Send us a drawing, a sample or clear reference photos, the target quantity and configuration, your destination port, and any testing your market requires. We will come back with unit price, carton dimensions, packed volume and lead time in writing.
